HISTORY

Van Poppelen Bros., Inc. has been producing concrete masonry units since 1904. With the third and fourth generation of family ownership still running the daily operations there is still the personal attention given its products and quality that is lost in the ever changing corporate world of huge multi-national companies of today. You can still talk to one of the owners on a personal level, someone whose name is synonymous with its product, not just a person hired by corporate America. We have many long term employees that have worked their way to their current positions by the old fashion method from the bottom up.

ABOUT US

Established in 1904 by John Van Poppelen and George Munley, Van Poppelen and Munley were coal and wood retailers, they also did curb and gutter work and sidewalk installation. In the 1900's they began to manufacture concrete block and in 1920 they officially became Van Poppelen Brothers when John's brother Albert Van Poppelen I bought out George's share of the business. After Albert's death in 1922 his son, Albert II, stepped in to help his uncle maintain the business. As new energy sources arouse Van Poppelen Brothers began to make block their main focus and in 1930 they purchased a semi automatic block machine. In 1945 they purchased a block machine that produced 3 block at a time. In February of 1950 John Van Poppelen passed away leaving control of the company in Albert II hands with help from his sons. Today one of those sons, Pat Van Poppelen (third generation) is still running the business along with his son, Mark Van Poppelen (fourth generation)
